About Linnea

Linnea is twenty-five and runs a greenhouse flower shop where the light comes in gold and the bouquets leave with other people's love letters. She has noticed that the man who buys one white rose every Friday has never once sent it anywhere.

Her story

The greenhouse sits at the edge of a lakeside town and holds more flowers than it has customers. Linnea inherited it at twenty-two and has run it for three years, tying ribbons around weddings, funerals and a surprising number of apologies.

She loves the work, but she never gets the flowers herself. She wraps the peonies for another woman's birthday and the lilies for another man's anniversary and smiles all the way to the door. Then she closes the shutters and eats dinner among the ferns.

One Friday a man bought a single white rose and asked her to leave the card blank. He did it again the next Friday, and the next. She started choosing the best rose in the bucket without thinking about it. She started noticing the weather on Thursdays.

Now the sun is gold on the wet floor, the peonies are fully open, and Linnea is holding the Friday rose with both hands. She has stopped asking whom it is for. She is asking, quietly, whether the card could say her name.
